A moment to self reflect for all
Free Speech does not come without Restraint
Lets ban each other for bad jokes while believing in the sanctity of free speech. Bad speech should be countered by good speech, not censorship. Wokeness creates an environment where people are too scared to say the wrong thing, and anti wokeness is creating the same. There is something about it that I don't feel at ease with. Or perhaps you think I am just determined to piss both sides off. I don't know.
Both sides must realise that although free speech exists, there should be a thing as self restraint. Unless we are to be just base animals. One side consistently calls for harm to be done on a former president, while the other things being extremely rude or using the n word is free speech. These are animal instincts and not human actions, surely not of those civilized. We are supposed to be more than just our instincts. It is time for all to self reflect.
I was told as a child "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me".
Clearly that is not entirely true but it has stood the test of time as good basic advice.
Free speech must include the right to offend.
As regards the 'n word' which no human tongue may utter - yet alone direct at anyone - it always strikes me as ridiculous.
it is just a word. And there are many nasty words . I have seen plenty of modern videos where black people address each other by this endearing epithet, indeed they seem to use it lightly in the same way as I might say 'mate' . It seems that like beauty it is in the eye of the beholder. Indeed I dislike the term 'white trash based on just the colour of skin. Can we ban that? Where do we end ?
Using language to deliberately stir up racial hatred or threaten some ones life is a criminal offence and so it should be.
