There is something I have found in the new media world which is similar to the mainstream media world, that everyone is deadly afraid of losing the attention of people. Because that equates to a direct attack on their livelihood. It is more so in new media because they don't have the safety net of a big investor.
At some point, it makes people dishonest to a point. Because on slow news day, they will do outrage farming even if they don't do it normally. So that they are always in the focus. Can't lose those gold coins. And I think a lot of advise that sometimes people give me behind the scenes is what that mindset. And they might not even be thinking about it consciously, because this is the game they are playing and that is how it is played.
All I have to say to that is, I am sorry I am not built that way. If you want to have a conversation with me I will have a conversation with you. If I want to have a conversation with you I will reach out and ask. I am not trying to sell you something and I am not buying anything. I just want to have a conversation to see what I can learn and maybe in the process my audience can learn as well. And I don't even care how big you are or how small you are in that respect. I don't care if my videos only get 2 views. I don't have an editor or a producer or anything, doing my stuff for me or checking the guests for me to see if it will be profitable or not for me to have someone on. The conversation is reward enough. Someone is willing to gift me their time, come on. That is enough for me.
I am not looking to build a brand. If you like it then you will appreciate it, and if you don't then you won't. Money money money. Fame fame fame. These are such empty things to chase. There is no nourishment of the soul. Make honest content, something that you are actually interested in. For the right reasons as well. And people will appreciate it.
I don't know, I like people who put good effort in their content and videos and conversations. But which comes across as genuine. I do not necessarily like outrage merchants if that is all they do, grow their audience that way, and all they then do is regurgitate other people's ideas. That is why such people are scared of losing attention because they know their internal base is hollow. They have nothing to offer on their own.
Nah. Personally for me, I have a day job which keeps me honest. And I do the rest on the side. Even if someday I might not need a day job, I will still replace it with something where I do not need to be a attention whore to make a living. That kind of thing changes you as a person. I am a simple man with simple needs and simple desires. All the best things in life I already have, which is the love of my wife and security from our family. Everything else is a bonus. And I am not the sort of person who is going to wreck his life chasing bonuses.
What I am trying to say is, and I know its a long read, that build a healthy perspective in your life. It doesn't matter that you have a mercedes when a toyota would do. It doesn't matter if you live in a gated community when a house surrounded by good neighbours would do. It doesn't matter if you stay in 5 star hotels when a 3 star would get you the same or better experiences and memories. It doesn't matter if you have rolex when a mickey mouse watch will tell you the same time. Understand what is important in your life to bring you happiness and successful, do not measure yourself with other people's perception of what success should look like for you.
Love you all ♥️
Absolutely right you are my friend...
It does remind me of a joke though: "it's easier to cry in a new Mercedes, than in an old Toyota"
Something along that lines in a different language and world...
You're a good man Momus, do take care
