Idi Amin: The Butcher of Uganda
Idi Amin, the Butcher of Uganda, was one of the worst dictators Africa has ever seen, or infact the world has ever seen. In this episode, I lay down the gist of some of the atrocities he committed, how he came to power and how he was overthrown.
I made this video below a few years ago, but now that I am closing down my YouTube channel, and bringing everything over here exclusively, I thought it would be a good idea to repost it here. After I have gone through posting all my previous “History & Myth” episodes, I will try to think of a new way to present the newer videos. Something that uses both the video format and the written format as complimentary means of telling the story.
Julius Nyerere (President of Tanzania): Described Amin as “a murderer, a liar and a savage”.
Kenneth Kaunda (President of Zambia): Described him as “a madman... a buffoon” and an “essentially evil man” who was comparable to Hitler and Mussolini.
Milton Obote (Former Ugandan President): Called Amin “the greatest brute an African mother has ever brought to life”.
Yoweri Museveni (Current President of Uganda): Described Amin as a “tool of the devil” who forced himself on the Ugandan people.
Lord Owen (British Foreign Office Minister): Revealed he had considered the issue of assassinating Amin, stating it was viewed as an “outrageous suggestion”.
Harold Wilson (British Opposition Leader): Told a television audience in 1972 that he considered Amin “mentally unbalanced”
Henry Kyemba (Former Ugandan Health Minister): Stated that Amin “got away with murder” and revealed that Amin boasted about eating the organs of his human victims.
