Kemi over Jenrick? Failed Tactic.
Tories needed a leader not a manager - but they once again got a manager
I will tell you why Tories elected Kemi Badenoch.
Many of the influential Tory membership and politicians are classical liberal to postmodernist. They are only fiscally conservative at best. Because of this they fail to understand their own base.
They don't disagree with Labour on many points. They are all usually in agreement. Their main disagreement is that one is Labour tribe and the other is Tory tribe - like just mere football teams.
Because of this reason Tories don't really have a true conservative vision of their own, neither do they want to have one. So how can they beat Labour? By out-Labouring Labour in certain aspects. See how diverse we are. We are not racists you are. They are not against woke, they are against excesses of woke - there is a huge difference there. And there is also a reason why wokeness has been able to penetrate during the 14 years of Tories in every single public institution to varying degrees.
They were apprehensive about Jenrick actually being able to represent sentiments of the majority long been ignored and forgotten. They were afraid of having their Conservative Party actually being conservative. Quite frankly they belong with the Liberal Democrats because that is all they are or ever will be.
And their idea that they can beat Labour at their own game will fail as it failed with Rishi as well. You don't beat identity politics by playing more of the same.
My main criticism of her? She is too concerned about keeping the Tory Party together, eg not wanting to leave ECHR as it will divide the Tories, rather than cutting through with a proper conservative vision and weeding out the non-conservatives from within their ranks. There won't be much change with her, at best even if she wins the election somehow in 2029, there would be only a bit of scaling some of Labour policies back. With Jenrick there seemed like an actual conservative vision whether it would have delivered or not, it would have certainly stopped the recent movement on political right going more extreme.
But we saw, she was the centre rights choice, the centre right that are classical liberal and maybe only fiscally conservative. This is the reason why they batted for her so heavily.
Regarding the current uproar of racism being directed towards her:
I am not saying there is no racism as an opposition to her. This hasn't come out today, it has been building up online for a while. It has been everyday. But for many on the centre right to make racism a main point today, as if it's a phenomenon only erupted today, shows that they might be trying to throttle legitimate disagreement with her appointment.
I think at this time it is important to understand why some people under anonymous accounts are voicing such things. I think it's because they are not seeing themselves being represented in any institution. You are seeing that yourself with people's strong opposition to multiculturalism. They don't care about it when their own is being eroded according to them. I think if we ignore these feelings without understanding where it is coming from and a lot of it is legitimate even though they might not be articulating it correctly then this online phenomena will translate to real life with dire consequences to all.
As I mentioned above, my main opposition with her is that she is more concerned about keeping the Tory party together rather than presenting a real conservative vision. That itself is the main thing to be concerned about, everything else is secondary. She doesn't mean to make Tories conservative or appeal to the actual conservative base, but win against the Labour and then its more of the same. We will see no real changes, we will see no drastic reforms, everyone will be kept happy.
Some of the other details:
At the start of her career I did not appreciate her trying to gather vote from Nigerians on the basis that she is one of them and will be a voice for them in Westminster - she should only be a voice to her constituency and the country she is representing.
I did not like that she has voted in favour of increasing mass surveillance of people's communications.
I did not like that she has consistently voted to increase pension age - which shows that she has just bought into the mainstream idea of well we live longer so we have to work for longer rather than thinking of alternative solutions to this problem.
Voted against reduction in welfare benefits spending. That needs reduction and the dependency needs to be curtailed. Campaigned in favour of foreign students being able to bring their dependents over.
She voted in favour of all Covid restrictions and offered no alternative voice over it.
She has consistently voted to increase taxes to specifically fund health and social care - that means she is of the idea of more of the same model.
