Maldon & Tiptree FC Owners charged with human trafficking for sexual exploitation charges.
The newish owner of Maldon & Tiptree football club, Barrie Drewitt-Barlow and his partner charged for human trafficking for sexual exploitation and rape, along with two other men one of them being a local Maldon town councillor, Richard Howard-Smith.
They have put an incredible stain on the Jammers and should really have their ownership seized and sold off if found guilty. It is likely they are guilty, seeing how many investigations have taken place in their multiple properties and that crown prosecution has decided to charge them.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 57, along with his partner Scott Drewitt-Barlow, 32, bought the football club and it's ground in February 2025. Barrie is the first gay man to father twins through surrogacy in the UK. It was covered in a reality TV show, covered and celebrated.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow fathered his first set of twins (Aspen and Saffron) via a surrogate mother named Rosalind Bellamy, and his later set of twins (Dallas and Jasper) with a different surrogate, both using donor eggs. He shares these children with his former husband, Tony, and his fiancé, Scott
So, you can see how the evidence would need to be incredibly high for a mostly politically left leaning justice system to make a move against them. Both men have been remanded in custody, with a scheduled appearance at Chelmsford Crown Court set for June 5.
Essex Police has charged two more men on 21st of May authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service as part of an investigation into human trafficking for sexual exploitation, rape and other sexual offences.
Richard Howard-Smith (Maldon Town Councillor), 35, and Eldred Reames, 24, both of Southwood Chase, Danbury, have been remanded into custody to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 23 May.
This is almost going under the radar, these are serious allegations and investigations. As a supporter of Jammers, I feel they have damaged the football club to no end, regardless of the outcome. ITV decided to remove the upcoming documentary series Up The Jammers—which chronicled the club's recent ownership and season—from their broadcast schedule.
The manager of Maldon & Tiptree Football Club has confirmed he has stepped down from his role with immediate effect. Kevin Horlock took charge in February 2025 for the second time, after previously managing the club between 2016 and 2018.
This season, he steered the team to the first round of the FA Cup - losing to Port Vale - as well as winning the Isthmian League North Division. His departure comes two weeks after the arrests of Barrie and Scott Drewitt-Barlow - who have been high-profile figures since the Drewitt-Barlow Organisation took over the club.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow and Scott Drewitt-Barlow, are both vehemently denying all allegations as of current but personally I don't think the CPS would have moved against them if the evidence wasn't overwhelming especially when it comes to such serious charges.
