Hadiths are sayings of the prophet, they are not in the Quran. The Quran, hadiths, and sunnah are the 3 main sources of Islam. Quran is the so-called revelation from Allah via Gibrael to Mohd, who then dictated it to his companions. Hadiths are the sayings, and reported deeds of Mohd as recorded by his companions. And Sunnah are the customs and practices of Mohd as observed and verified as being observed. The whole of Islam is focused around what was revealed to Mohd, what he dictated, what he said, and what he did.
Saudi Arabia's crown prince is making an effort to separate the hadith from the religion hence to break up a huge basis on which sharia law is based. Many islamic scholars are very much against him and have started considering him as an enemy of the religion. There is no guarantee how successful his efforts would be. Theologically, as much as I consider Islam as an evil ideology and would like it to be mellowed if not dismantled completely, you cannot separate Mohd from Islam. He is Islam.
“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means.” [al-Nisa 4:34]
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘When a man calls his wife to his bed and she refuses, and he went to sleep angry with her, the angels will curse her until morning.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 3065; Muslim, 1436)
“As to those women on whose part you see ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next) refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful).” [al-Nisa 4:34]
Just some examples above. Kindly read up about what is the ideology of Islam rather than thinking Islam is what your moderate Muslim friend follows or says. Because they have no idea. And they do not matter in the grand scheme of things, because they are indifferent to it all.
