Speech at Turning Point UK Event | 23.03.24
Gathering for British Culture - A call for a cultural movement
I was asked to say a few words at the latest Turning Point UK event in London recently, so I wrote a few words down. I shortened the speech a lot when I got up to speak. Partly because I didn’t take my notes and forgot the speech, and also because in the moment shorter message seemed appropriate.
But I thought I put the video here of my speech, and then also put my full speech below.
The full speech - A call for a cultural movement and self reflection:
I want to tell you all – and I believe in this full heartedly – our enemies are not strong, it is we who have grown weak. But who is this we? We. The English, the Welsh, the Northern Irish, the Scots, those from the various Overseas Territories, and the Loyalists like myself from various different parts of the world who have come to live here. Everyone – who is loyal to these lands, and wants to uphold British values, culture, traditions and heritage. This is the We, when I talk of the We. And this is the we that has grown weaker, and our enemies can smell it.
Yes, it is true, that a lot of things happened to us that we were never asked about or have been deceived about. Brexit was delivered but its potential still not realised. Promises of stopping the boats and mass migration were made, but not delivered. Actually it has gone even worse. The incursion of woke into our public institutions and media, has increased more and more and more. But there are also our individual faults – where we have let ourselves down.
We left our churches empty, broken our families, lost touch in our communities, stopped taking care of our old, stopped standing up for each other and been way too tolerant of the intolerant. We overly divided ourselves into left and right – and let puritanical voices within these divisions get louder and louder, leading us away from the core of the issues. We have let our good nature be taken advantage of.
Now, you must be wondering where is that message of hope. Well, this is it. If we have let it happen, then we can also turn it around. It is in our control, the things in our immediate vicinity. And it is important to recognise it. We are the real soul of this nation, the real beating heart. Not the bricks and mortar and statues and buildings, but what they represent. We who inhabit them. That is us.
We need to find ourselves again, find our courage again, find our camaraderie and our communal spirit. Be unafraid in loving our own. Be better fathers and better mothers, be better sisters be better brothers, be better sons and better daughters. To each other and to our nation. Be British again. Stand up for one another.
It is time to be proactive. Proactive in a cultural movement, that comes from all of us. Ground up. That fights to reclaim what has been lost. That teaches the future generations about the values, cultures, and traditions that their heritage holds. And embody it in our lives. Be the reflection we want to see in others and rise above those who hate us.
Nobody is coming to save us, we have to save ourselves. Grow out of our selfish desires, and come together towards common goals and under a common banner. Together.
Not cease from mental fight, nor let our swords sleep, till we have built Jerusalem again in these pleasant lands.
