Suffering is necessary
I come from a background where shit happens, and you just learn to deal with it. No one is there to do a song and dance for your feelings. Now, perhaps that is not the healthiest way to be. Or maybe it is. But that is what has shaped me.
So, I find it very hard to sympathise with people, who claim benefits on the basis that they have anxiety due to stuff that has happened to them in life. Even in many cases, when it comes to post traumatic stress disorder.
I am pretty sure, many a people, were shellshocked when their loved ones died, most times in front of their very eyes, in both world wars; and they just had to get on with their lives and so they did. That is all part of life. Peace times are an anomaly. Shit happens in life, most times very bad shit. You have to just pick yourself up and get on with it.
And I definitely find it hard to donate money to someone, on that basis as well. Unless it is a war veteran who has actually seen and been through some horrific times. But then, it should be a given for them. Not a benefit or a donation, rather an earned reward for their service. Totally another matter.
This will have opinions divided. I am sure of it. Because you are living in a society which has had relative peace for generations. You haven't been in a war at the age of 4, been through stages of civil unrest, had people shot standing right next to you, escaped the death clutches of a totalitarian ideologically motivated nation, had been kidnapped and beaten up, have come close to death multiple times, and having all that also have to deal with cancer; but still don't think it is a big deal and feel lucky as you are alive and kicking. Instead of learning to overcome adversity, you are living in a society that is asking you to indulge in your struggle sessions. Make a show of it. Coddle you from every angle. Trying to teach you that discomfort is not normal.
We are paralyzing our minds and our human abilities. We are made to overcome obstacles. We are made to suffer, and by overcoming it we find real peace within. We need strive. We need the challenge. We can't just coast in life and expect that will not have society consequences down the stream.
That doesn't mean any of our feelings are not real or valid. Of course they are. Anxieties and stress are natural. They happen. But our orientation should be geared towards trying to overcome them, not be crippled by them. And not just be crippled by them but celebrate the fact that we are crippled by such debilitating emotional hangovers. Sorry. I do not accept weakness.
Because you know what will happen. Something that has been for a while now. For the service on convenience, we are trying remove all sorts of discomforts in our lives. What will happen as a result? We will end up creating a new kind of discomfort, and we will have no means to overcome it. And that will consume us fully and mark the end of us. That discomfort has a name. And it is artificial intelligence. Rather than using it as a tool to help us with our tasks, we are trying to use it a replacement of us doing our tasks. Not understanding that tasks give us purpose, and purpose gives us drive. And without a sense of purpose and meaning, we are all lost lambs, most likely to fall in the deepest caverns of the abyss.
