The more we advance technology and tools, the smarter specialists become, and the dumber general public becomes. The stark difference between the one who makes the calculator and the one who uses it.
This is essentially the story of AI as well. An incredibly powerful and useful tool, but a way of making the general public dumber on a much faster pace than ever before. And AI within arts is even taking away human creativity. Dumb, unimaginative, compliant human bots.
Why does Starmer think it is a good idea for AI to be used more and more in our public services? Well, this is not his idea. He has no ideas. This is a civil service idea being parroted by his mouth. In the recent years, the quality of the hires within all public services have been so low, due to various DEI policies, that they need AI to do the bulk of the jobs. And it is not just DEI policies, it is overall the low quality of people that had been part of the public services for a long time, not having a proper aptitude test for entry into local government jobs is part of the problem.
The quality of the people overall within public services is so low, that 1 person doing the job of 10 while the 10 fiddle their thumbs, cannot take it anymore. Add that into the mix of the lowering of standards for recent college and university graduates. The general dumbing down of the society. Slavery of mind via need for convenience. This is why the case to use AI in public services is even higher than before. And the scariest part of it all is that there aren't bright enough minds within public services to know whether what AI is doing for them is correct or not, or whether it is manipulation or not - basically they won't be able to spot the mistakes in the process till they see negative outcomes or non-correlating outcomes over a period of years. This is scary to me. This is the same problem we came up with during Covid times and analysis of the data being produced.
So, as usual. We keep on progressing technology. Making the specialist smarter and smarter. And making the general public dumber. In the service of convenience, we enslave our souls, and the very essence of what it means to be human. We give away control of our agency more and more each passing day. And of course, the specialist, the elite class, will want you not to worry about this rapid progression of technology, they will want you not to worry about AI, they will call you stupid and come up with all different examples so you don't worry, because they don't want you to disrupt something that works in their favour more than yours. Finally they get their win of brain over brawns, but they don't understand what they will lose in the process.
In the end we will create something that is beyond the specialist, the smart, the elite class as well. Out of their control. But they won’t realise it as well, till they encounter negative or non-correlating outcomes over a period of years. It will be too late then.
