It used to be that few years ago, people were living their life and when cool stuff happened with them, they would share it on their socials with others. Now it seems like people's life is about making 'content' on social media whether real or fictional, and actual life sometimes happens around it. It is a weird way to live. A lot of it is encouraged by the incentive structure of garnering attention on social media and earning money from it.
It is no longer, hey my wife and I went to the Amalfi Coast and look at this view, isn't it amazing. It is now, hey listen we need to go to Amalfi Coast so I can take a picture of the views, and maybe we can create other content over there and post it on our socials. Because that is our life now. The purpose of having experiences and the purpose of having a life itself is distorted this way, I think.
I am not saying that it is a right or a wrong business structure of social media, I just think it is a major contributing factor of people living unfulfilled and fake lives, and severely damaging their mental health in the process. I think all of us individually need to revaluate our relationships with the use of social media.
By the way, we haven’t been to Amalfi Coast yet. But we have been to many other places, like Malaga in the picture. Beautiful place. I have nothing more to add to those thoughts. I do it as well - I take lots of pictures wherever I go. But that is not really what we go to such places for. Tourism is not about preserving the memories, it is about creating and experiencing them. And that is what life is supposed to be as well.
